What information do I need to ship cargo from Puerto Rico to the USVI?
You will need to provide a commercial invoice for the merchandise. The invoice should have the name, address, and phone number for the person receiving the cargo in the desired port. If you plan to shop in Puerto Rico to send to the USVI, a copy of the store receipt will have to be submitted when dropping off the merchandise. Used household goods and personal items can be listed on a Performa Invoice for Excise and Customs Clearance.
Do I need a booking?
Vehicles and heavy equipment should be booked in advance to ensure we have space available and the required documentation.
Do I need to clear Excise and Customs when my merchandise arrives?
When shipping from San Juan to the USVI or BVI, Excise and Customs clearance are both required before picking up merchandise. In the USVI we offer to clear your shipment for you for a fee of $20. Interisland shipments do not require Customs Clearance.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.
Do you take passengers aboard your vessel?
Unfortunately, we do not accept passengers aboard our vessel.
Do I need a cargo broker?
Personal shipments can be cleared by us for a fee or the customer can choose to clear it themselves. Businesses that have a high-value foreign invoice will require a formal entry which is done by a broker. If a broker is needed, we will be happy to recommend a few that will be able to clear your shipment for you.
Do I have to pay Excise Tax or Customs Duties?
Personal shipments are not required to pay Excise Tax. Businesses are required to pay Excise tax depending on the nature of the shipment. Foreign goods will require customs duties of 6% of the value of the foreign merchandise. US origin goods are exempt from Customs Duties. China made goods are exempt from Customs Duties if the merchandise falls under the free Harmonized Tariff Code. High valued China goods may require a “free” formal entry that can be done by a broker.
